What is it all about?

Winter Guard is an indoor “Sport of the Arts.” Students bring music to life utilizing dance, flage, rifle, and saber. Winter Guard uses a competition-based approach for organizing events in order to showcase youth activities in pursuit of high standards of achievement. Celebrating its 30th Anniversary this year, Winter Guard International annually involves over 11,000 participants for World Championships in Dayton, OH.

How can winter guard impact your band program?

Winter Guard and Winter Percussion teach young men and women to learn and laugh together. It continues your team building foundation through teaching students to meet challenges as a group. Winter Guard gives color guard students another performance outlet to hone their skills and develop as performers.

How many participate in a group?

While the minimum is 5 performers, there may be up to 30 in any single performing ensemble.

What is the difference between Scholastic and Independent?

Scholastic units are school based programs, whereas Independent units are community or college based groups.
